Written Component

Application Essays
As an opportunity to present your distinctive qualities and your suitability for the WSC programme, your essays are an important part of your application. Begin work on these essays early, to give yourself time to reflect, write and edit.  All applicants must submit answers to one of the 5 essay questions below (500-word limit):

Essay 1:   What are your life aspirations? Describe the vision for your life and your inspiration for pursuing this path. What do you need to learn at WSC to achieve the life you want?
Essay 2:   What matters most to you and why? Explain how the WSC Transformation Programme© enhances what matters most to you.  Describe your short and long term post-WSC life goals in this context and what is it specifically about WSC that is going to help you succeed?
Essay 3:  What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such? What would you consider the biggest failure or disappointment in your life? How would WSC have helped you to accomplish more or sooner or helped you avoid failure or disappointment.
Essay 4:   How will your background, values and non-work activities enhance the experience of other WSC students and add value to WSC's vibrant student life?
Essay 5:   How have you used your personal characteristics, values and resources to achieve what you want from life? Describe a time when you felt a strong sense of purpose. Describe how WSC will enhance that.

Your essay should be confident, direct and to the point. The Admissions Board uses the essay to ascertain your motivation, maturity, suitability and focus. Your reasons for undertaking the WSC programme should be crystal clear. If you have vague reasons for pursuing the programme, you should reconsider your decision to apply. Re-read the website and, if you haven't already, join the WSC Advice Exchange.

Otherwise, have fun.  Feel free to ask your friends or family if the essay sounds like you. It should. The essay captures who you are, how you live, what you believe and what you aspire to and is an important way for the Admissions Board to recognise what is most distinctive about you.

Additional Written Information
As part of getting to understand who you are and what you want to achieve, and as part of the application questionnaire, you'll be required to tell us a bit about yourself with questions such as:

  • What would you like the WSC Admissions Board to know about your life experience?
  • What is your life vision and why is this choice meaningful to you?
  • Tell us about a time in your professional experience were frustrated or disappointed.
  • When you join the WSC programme, how will you introduce yourself to your new classmates?
Interview Process

As part of the application review process, you may be required to attend an interview. The interview is an indicator of our interest but is not a guarantee of admission; it serves as one element amongst many that are considered whilst we review your application.

Interviews are conducted by a panel of members of the WSC Admissions Board and may be scheduled at Spa Camps or conducted via teleconference (we generally use Skype).

Post Application

Once your application has been submitted, it's time to seriously consider which electives will most satisfactorily meet your objectives. Through the application process, you will have already commenced defining your dazzling future, now's the time to do the following:

  1. Familiarise yourself with the Required Curriculum. These course units are the building blocks of your brilliant new life and essential fundamentals upon which you will build.
  2. Further refine the life objectives you submitted in your application. Life transformation may be expressed and achieved in many different ways. It's important that you think carefully about your brilliant new life and what skills and behaviours you must acquire to achieve it.
  3. Review all the elective course units. Now is the time, even before acceptance, that you review all the course unit descriptions and decide which course units best match your transformation objectives and interests. We will review your selections on your first day of Spa Camp© and offer guidance, if needed.
  4. Ask lots of questions in the WSC Advice Exchange. You'll find plenty of support there and some great ideas. You can also introduce yourself to your fellow students, alumni and faculty.
  5. Submit articles or blogs for publication. We publish anyone who has an interesting, well articulated point of view and not necessarily one with which we agree.
  6. Read the WSC site in its entirety again. It's good to be fully familiar with the WSC Programme and we update the content all the time.
