Will this Work in the Real World?

Transforming your life is hard so the true test of any approach is "Will this work in the real world"? At WSC, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to implement classroom learning into real-life situations.

The WSC teaching philosophy is carefully planned to fulfil the needs of our learning model. Improving skills, developing more effective behaviours and holding a bold vision for your life is all very well, but the true test of the is whether you can take learning out of the classroom and into your life.

Our learning model invites students in. Into 6 months of learning that's immersed in real-world solutions. In the classroom, you’ll examine the blocks that have been preventing you from achieving your objectives and then plan how to overcome them. You might work with a team of classmates to develop a new career strategy. Or practice better impression management techniques with a team of experts who critique and advise. You may even have a relationship problem that needs a group perspective.

Beyond the classroom, WSC students participate in a number of real life scenarios that allow them a safe way to use their new skills. The WSC Advice Exchange and live chats are hosted by WSC facilitators and coaches who throw out ideas, offer suggestions, help develop solutions and help you through Real Life Application©.

Classroom Experience

In the classroom, you’ll find a stimulating academic environment where students and faculty work together to test theories and challenge assumptions. As a student, you won’t just learn to follow the rules of living life brilliantly; you’ll examine the rules with a critical eye and draft your own solutions to life’s problems.

Classroom discussions, in both the Spa Camp© and the Online Course©, are energised by an array of perspectives and a shared commitment to exploring beyond the surface.

Teaching Methods

The WSC programme includes graded activities as well as activities that precede and follow the course to ensure a complete understanding of the course material. Our teaching methods include:

  • Behavioural Coaching
  • Case Studies & Simulations for use in Real Life Application©
  • Discussions & Face-to-face Feedback
  • Learning Labs, Problem-solving Sessions & Role Plays
  • Learning Team Projects
  • Theoretical Overviews
  • Online Podcasts for Course Unit Review

Our facilitators employ a number of teaching styles and coaching methods to support the uniqueness of each student and her individual objectives.

Coaching Approach

Wall Street Courtesan facilitators employ an array of validated behavioural change and learning techniques, rather than just simply motivating, championing and challenging their students. The facilitator focuses on:

Education: Where the facilitator, as the subject-matter expert, transfers information and knowledge.
Skills Coaching: Where the facilitator assists the student to develop skills and behaviours.
Rehearsal Coaching: Where course information is applied and skills and behaviours practiced in scenario simulation and Real Life Application©.
Performance Coaching: Where the student's application of their newly acquired skills and behaviours is assessed and measured against objectives in the Transformation Plan©.
Self Coaching: Where the student becomes the key driver of her own performance, self assessing against the objectives stated in the Transformation Plan©. Unlike the more traditional role of coaching, where the coach is not cast in the role of expert, the WSC approach requires that each of its facilitators is a subject-matter expert.

Not only do our facilitators teach, they also do, an important distinction when being coached through Real Life Application©. Facilitators better help students through subjective, individual experiences because they have faced similar scenarios.

Depending on the course, she'll be an expert flirt, a skilled negotiator, have brilliant critical thinking skills, know how dress for any occasion and manage her image perfectly. Facilitators also provide a contextually objective measurement of the student’s performance in relation to the student’s individual objectives which is experiential, not just theoretical.

Learning Teams

In the WSC Transformation Programme©, the Real Life Application© scenarios we present are intentionally difficult; mastering them requires rigorous deliberation. In between your personal assessment of a scenario and the classroom discussion is an essential interim step: discussion within your Learning Team.

At Spa Camp© orientation, students are assigned to a diverse eight person Learning Teams composed of individuals with different majors with whom you will work throughout Spa Camp© and the Online Course©. Your team collaborates on assignments and serve as important "proving grounds" for sharing ideas, raising questions and introducing issues inspired by the scenarios.

Team members challenge, encourage and, above all, listen to each other. Their regular discussions help members deepen their analyses and improve outcomes in Real Life Application©.

Engagement Process

We use well established skills implementation models that integrate course material into everyday activities. Your success is reliant upon the application of what is sometimes highly detailed material so we use a process to support the complexity of the programme.

Engage & Explore:  We engage with your key challenges and use the full range of our faculty's capabilities to fully explore all your objectives and develop a course tailored to meeting your objectives.
Efficiency:  The applicability of the learning model, which includes rigorous pre-programme assessments, web-based assignments and coaching, fully utilises the student's time both in Spa Camp© and the Online Course©.
Experience:  Our faculty and expert programme team provide a targeted and energetic learning solution that focuses on understanding and modifying behaviours, skills building exercises and solutions to "real world" problems using "real-life" simulations and experiences. The Transformation Plan© describes how you apply programme content in your brilliant, new life.
Evaluate:  At prescribed intervals in the Transformation Plan©, you and your programme facilitator evaluate your progress towards agreed objectives. Your comments are used to fine tune your plan and re-evaluate objectives and creates a virtuous cycle for positive change.

The incorporates knowledge and models from many disciplines including management, leadership, business, psychology, philosophy and sociology. We've also taken the best from the old-style finishing schools through the modern application of their traditional practices.
